SHERMAN Youth Theatre company will be performing Penarth’s Katherine Chandler’s Hood at the Sherman Theatre from February 25 to 28.

This will be ahead of their performance as part of the regional National Theatre Connections Festival in April.

Sherman Youth Theatre’s group 3 members (16 and 17 year olds) will be performing a contemporary staging of this new play which is about young people struggling with the consequences of irresponsible adult behaviour.

Hood will be the first performance by the newly restructured Youth Theatre, with two casts from the group performing on alternate nights.

Katherine Chandler’s Hood is a modern story about a teenager called, Hood, whose mam has run off with a bacon-licking vegetarian and her dad spends his days and nights lost in his armchair. There's no money left, there's five struggling kids to feed and our modern-day heroine Hood, is determined to keep her family together, whatever it takes.

Penarth’s Katherine Chandler is an award-winning playwright who received critical praise for her plays with Dirty Protest, Parallel Lines and Sherman Cymru’s co-production with Bristol Old Vic, Before It Rains. Katherine is also the Writer in Residence at Sherman Cymru.

Following the performance in February, Sherman Youth Theatre will be performing Hood as part of the regional National Theatre Connections Festival. Across the UK 5,000 young people from 260 companies will be performing a choice of ten plays commissioned by the National Theatre at 27 theatres. Hood was one of the 10 plays commissioned by the National Theatre for this year’s festival.

Tickets to the show cost £8, concessions £2 off and under 25s half price.
