THE next Flat Holm Society Public Talk will take place on Thursday, February 19 at 7pm. The talk is called ‘Traders, Raiders and Saints on Islands (Severnside from the Romans to the Normans)’ and will be given by Jeremy Knight.

Jeremy Knight, a former inspector of Ancients Monuments with Cadw and English Heritage, will be speaking about his latest book, ‘South Wales from the Romans to the Normans; Christianity, Literacy and Lordship’.

He will be looking at what was happening in the Severn Estuary during those times including Viking invasions, the establishment of monasteries in Llandough, Llantwit Major and Llancaran, and the founding of towns like Cardiff and Swansea.

The talk will be held at the Kymin, Beach Road, Penarth and there is a suggested donation towards costs of £2 to £3.
