WELSH graduates will have their work displayed at Wales Millennium Centre in the Graduate 2014 exhibition.

Graduates from nine universities across Wales will have their work displayed from September 13 until November 16 showing some of the best artwork from young and emerging artists within Wales.

The exhibition will be curated by artist Sue Williams who was shortlisted for the Artes Mundi 2 and has work featured in collections throughout America, Africa and Europe. In 2000 she was the Gold Medal winner at the National Eisteddfod and winner of the Rootstein Hopkins Award.

Originally from Redruth, Cornwall, Sue has lived in Wales for the past 30 years. Within Wales, her work has been displayed at the National Museum and Galleries of Wales; Welsh Assembly Government and The Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea.

She said of the exhibition: “Graduate 2014 is a unique platform for the selected graduates to show their work to the public in one of Wales’ top cultural centers. Seeing their artwork in a public space gives the graduates an opportunity to develop and determine ideas for new concepts. The Graduate exhibitions at Wales Millennium Centre are hugely relevant to the future of the arts in Wales. It allows the public to see for themselves that alongside singers, rugby players and footballers there are also artists who place Wales on a global map, with these graduates showcasing Wales’ future."

During the selection process, Sue Williams visited the following universities: Bridgend College; Aberystwyth University; University of Wales, Trinity St David, Swansea; University of Wales, Coleg Sir Gar; University of Wales, Trinity St David; University of South Wales, Newport; University of South Wales, Glamorgan; Glyndwr University; Cardiff School of Art and Design.

Across its first two years the Graduate exhibition has exhibited 68 graduates, some of which have gone on to win the Gold Medal for Fine Art at the National Eisteddfod and be included in the Catlin Guide, which introduces the 40 most promising new graduate artists in the UK. Now in its third year, Graduate 2014 will exhibit a mixture of forms including fine art, sculpture, photography, applied arts, fashion and textiles.

The exhibition is free to view and will be launched on Friday, September 12 at 6.30pm with an evening of live music.
