l ON Thursday, September 18 Archaeology Cymru will be examining the legends of Beowulf. They meet every Thursday at Asda Leckwith, Cardiff at 7.30pm. It is open to everyone and includes refreshments. Then on Thursday, September 25 they will meet to discuss the Vikings in Wales.

Archaeology Cymru will meet for their monthly look at the past and present on Wednesday, September 24. Meet outside Sully Church at 2pm for a walk to illustrate the Sully Railway, a route of lost railway line time signs.

l Barry and District Chrysanthemum Society will have their annual general meeting on September 23 at 5pm to be held at Salem Baptist Church Hall, Beryl Road, Barry.

l The Barry Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association will be holding their anniversary charity concert will feature the incredible talent of Penarth born Jodi Bird (pictured). Jodi found fame on Britain’s Got Talent; the show will also feature a performance by Llinos Jones.

The charity concert will take place on Friday, September 26 at St Mary’s Church, Holton Road, Barry at 7.30pm.

l On Friday, September 26 there will be a coffee morning held by Karen, the deputy playgroup leader at KiddieWinkles Playgroup to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer so please pop along to Crossway Church Hall, Crossway Street, Barry from 9.30am until 12.30pm for coffee and a delicious treat to support Karen and Macmillan.

l On Tuesday, September 30 the Vale 50+ Strategy Forum will celebrate its ten year birthday at Barry Memorial Hall, Gladstone Road. The event will run from 10am until 3pm with a Bon Marche fashion show at 11am, with 50+ Forum members as the models, followed by ‘A Big Tea Party’ from 12.30pm until 3pm with free cake, tea and coffee.

There will also be lots of information stands, a choir, workshops, and computer taster sessions.

Free entry and all are welcome.
