LOVE, sex, regret, betrayal - they're all there in musical form in a concert to be given at St Donat's Arts Centre in the Vale of Glamorgan on Friday, April 4.
The Welsh Camerata choir, which draws its members from Cardiff, the Vale and further afield, will be performing madrigals by the great 17th century composer Claudio Monteverdi, directed by the early music specialist Andrew Wilson-Dickson and accompanied, in some pieces, by musicians playing period instruments.
Monteverdi (1567-1643) wrote madrigals (or short secular choral pieces) over most of his life, and this concert features highlights from throughout his career. The words he chose to set in his pieces run the whole gamut of human affections. And the development of his style through these pieces charts the seismic shift that took place in musical language from the Renaissance to the Baroque.
The concert details are: Friday, April 4, 7.30pm, St Donat's Arts Centre, Atlantic College, Vale of Glamorgan. Tickets cost £12 (or £10 for concessions) and are available at the door or via St Donats Arts Centre booking office telephone 01446 799 100 or online www.stdonats.com
The programme can also be held the following evening in Canton, Cardiff. More details are available on www.welshcamerata.com
