Tadross do the double!
AFC Tadross clinched the Division Two title on Tuesday evening after a
hard-fought draw with the Knap.
The Tadross knew it would be a tough battle after narrowly losing to them in
their previous meeting and that they would have to be at their best to add
the league title to their Dockers Cup win.
It was a nervy start by Tadross who didn't want to make any mistakes with so
much at stake.
Tadross soaked up the early Knap pressure and scored on the counter-attack
after Kane Haines broke down the right to find John Lidster in the box, who
rifled home the opener.
The Knap kept their heads up and it was not long until they were level.
It looked as though the half would end 1-1, until some excellent pressure by
Daniel Slack earned him Tadross's second just before half time to send
Tadross in 2-1 at the break.
The second half saw Tadross start brightly with pressure on the Knap goal,
but it was Knap who broke away to score the equaliser against the run of
play.
This seemed to spur the Knap boys on, and they took control of the game and
bagged their third to put them ahead for the first time on the evening.
It sent the Knap team into a frenzy and it looked like they were heading for
another victory over the Tadross.
But the Tadross were not going to give up easily, and after some late
pressure they were awarded a free kick, which was sent into the Knap box and
in a twist of fate, up stepped ex Park Vets player Stephen Gratton to score
the equaliser - and the goal that clinched the title.
The boys didn't realise until later in the changing rooms, when they found
out other results had gone their way, that the title was theirs - and the
champagne was flowing again!
Nobby would like to thank all the boys for their commitment this season, and
congratulate them on what, for the majority of the team, is only their
second season in senior league football.
The boys would like to thank Stuart and his staff at the Tadross for the
wonderful food he has served them and for their continuing support.
