Barry must share the spoils
BARRY 10
ABERCWMBOI 10
DUE TO the postponement of last December's fixture, Saturday's encounter with Abercwmboi was the first meeting of the season.
As the visitors are comfortably placed in mid-table the local side were facing a difficult match and needed to show more discipline and control if they were to gain points from this encounter.
With a cold wind blowing into their faces, and playing up the slope', Barry made a confident start and came close to scoring.
After 15 minutes, a defensive kick from the Abercwmboi 22 fell short of the touch and a swift counter attack, involving winger, Peter O'Sullivan and No 8, Jason Evans, enabled scrum-half Josh Davies, to sprint over for an excellent try.
Although Barry continued with their running policy they were unable to break down a stubborn defence and as the game entered the final stages of the first half, some poor tackling allowed the visitors' fullback to break from his half to set up a converted try, giving Abercwmboi a 7 points to 5 lead at half-time.
With the elements now in their favour Barry opened the second half by camping in the visitors' half. A period of pick up and drive' by the pack soon set up a maul in the right hand corner from which full back, Dave Provis, darted over for an unconverted try.
However, the game became a scrappy affair, not helped by several bewildering refereeing decisions, which frustrated both sides - Barry, in particular, making a host of errors that unfortunately, spoilt some promising attacks.
In the closing stages Abercwmboi converted a short-range drop goal to bring the scores level at 10 all, with the teams sharing the spoils by earning 2 league points each.
This Saturday Barry are away at second placed Aberdare with the coach leaving the clubhouse at 12.30pm for a 2.30pm kick off.
