Heres to your good health

A MARKET stall set up by the Vale of Glamorgan Council and partner organisations has won a prestigious national award.

The council-run Vale Health Alliance set up the All About Health stall in partnership with the Vale Local Health Board, Surestart, the Vale Centre for Voluntary Services, Barry Heart Health and other local health promotion projects.

The stall can be found at Barry street market in Holton Road every Tuesday and each week is manned by a different organisation wishing to give out health advice and information to local people.

The innovative project has now been recognised by the National Information Forum, which makes annual awards to projects that demonstrate excellence and imagination in providing information to people with disabilities and others who have difficulty in accessing information.

High street retailer Boots has helped the Vale Health Alliance to get the stall up and running by allowing equipment to be stored at its Holton Road shop.

Gill Clark - who worked as Vale Health Alliance Co-ordinator when the stall was established - travelled to London to collect the award.

She was accompanied by Vale Cabinet Member for Community Safety Cllr John Thomas and other members of the Vale Health Alliance.

Gill said: "Our market stall brings together a range of local groups and services to deliver information and advice in an informal setting on all aspects of health and the determinants of health.

"I am delighted that the stall has been honoured with this award, which has spurred us on to think about ways of using the experience gained from this project to develop new venues in the area."

The All About Health stall can be rented free of charge by any health promotion organisation interested in using it.
