FORTY clubs from across the Vale of Glamorgan have been represented at a special football festival.
Organised by the Vale Council s Football Develop-ment Unit, the festival was staged at the Barry Sports Centre and each club was represented by ten players.
Teams ranging from under-8s to under-13s played a series of seven-a-side matches, and one of the organisers, Nathan Nurton, assistant development officer, said: We decided to stage a non-competitive event to ensure players remain focused on football and continue to develop their ability.
The Football Development Unit is also hoping to stage a similar festival for beach football during the summer months, while venues and dates for the next series of ever-popular football fun days at Vale leisure centres have just been announced.
Children aged six to 11 are welcome to attend: Llantwit Major (Tuesday May 30), Barry (May 31), Penarth (June 1) and Cowbridge (June 2).
The fun days are always popular, so early booking is advised to avoid disappointment.
Organisers aim to improve sporting skills, provide an enjoyable experience and offer a chance to meet new friends.
All courses run from 10am to 3pm and cost 13.50, or 12 for FreeStyle members. Participants receive a certificate and a mystery prize.
Raffle winners during the festival day were: Mr Owens, who won a signed Bolton football shirt; Lloyd Kenefick (signed Cardiff shirt); and Mr Young (football training kit, including balls, bibs and cones).
