MORE than 350 children in different age groups at Under 8, 9, 10, 11 13 and 14 took part in Cadoxton Imps AFC's annual mini and junior 5-a-side tournament at Sully Sports and Social Club on Bank Holiday Monday.
Despite the chill wind, the weather was kind to the organisers and the day-long event was enjoyed by children and parents alike.
McDonald's Restaurant (Barry) once again kindly sponsored the event for the Imps to ensure that every child taking part in the tournament received a medal and certificate.
In addition this year, a team from each of the Under 8, 10, 11 and 14 sections were chosen to represent the Vale of Glamorgan in the annual mini/ junior 5-a-side football tournament being held in February next year at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff. organised by the Neighbourhood Watch Sports Trust in conjunction with South Wales Police.
Imps Chairman Martin Pursall said: "There is a lot of time and hard work needed from a lot of people to organise a tournament such as this, but it is worth it to see so many children and their parents enjoying a day's football fun.
"My thanks go to all the Imps managers and committee, Steve Greenslade and Gary Davies, of Sully Colts, for ensuring the pitches were perfect, and, of course, Huw Thomas of McDonald's Restaurant, Barry, for his continued support and sponsorship of this annual footballing event.
"In addition, thanks also to Gary Reid, of Neighbourhood Watch Sports Trust, for giving some of the teams taking part this year the chance to play at the Millennium Stadium next February."
