Runtastic!

Sully Centurions 1st XI made a sensational start with a huge 157 run victory at Sully on Bank Holiday Monday in the first league game of the season.

Batting first, runs flowed from the first over, with 10 coming from it as Jamie Sylvester and Ryan Sylvester rattled up a rapid 60 run partnership.

Jamie was caught for 24 at 60, then Ryan was caught and bowled by Cutter 12 runs later.

Evison and Newbold showed their class with a 77 run partnership, Evison making up for lost time with an excellent 49 before he was bowled with the score on 159.

A big Sully score was very much on as Langworth joined the in-form Newbold to take the score along merrily.

How good it was to see Langworth back in Centurions' colours after a two year round-the-world jaunt.

He was caught with the score on 193 but Newbold continued on his merry way with the help of builder genius Dave Eskins who has great ability and how nice it would be, this season, to see it every week.

He was caught off Weaver for an excellent 31 but Newbold the master finished on 86 not out as Centurions posted an enormous total of 265-5 at the end of their 50 overs.

Bridgend were never at the races as Adam Davies struck with only 10 runs on the board, the dangerous Grant Humphries caught behind by Lovering for 4.

Wickets fell at regular intervals, two going with the score on 35, both claimed by Ryan Sylvester, Brown for 11 and Dalton for 0. Towel became Adam Davies's second victim and the game as a contest was all over with the visitors on 44-4.

Only Stanton with a stubborn 50 showed any real resistance as skipper Jamie Sylvester burgled 4 wickets. Gareth Sullivan and Terry Williams, with one each, ensured Sully of a very big win.

Sully Centurions 265-5. M Newbold 86 no, R Sylvester 42, T Evison 49, D Eskins 31.

Bridgend 108 ao. P Stanton 50. J Sylvester 4-20, R Sylvester 2-25, A Davies 2-30.
