TWO of the headlines in the Barry & District of April 13, seemed to contradict each other.
The one of good news, Bay Passes Quality Test, announced that Keep Wales Tidy has granted The Seaside Award to two of the Vale s beaches, at Whitmore Bay and Southerndown.
The other Soroptimists hear how their clean-ups help, which referred to the work they have undertaken to tackle the litter problem at Jacksons Bay on behalf of the Marine Conservation Society for whom once-a-year clean-ups have also been conducted at the Knap s pebble beach.
The Vale Council may bask in the warmth provided by the organisers of such clean-ups which really make very little impression on the huge volume of litter deposited on our beaches throughout the year by the public in general and, at the Knap, by shoreline fishermen in particular.
Their litter includes discarded hooks, line and tackle, a serious danger to bathers and young children.
I wonder if the Marine Conservation Society and Keep Wales Tidy liaise with each other before bestowing an award?
