Bus plea

WE are told we can expect to live longer, and certainly in my own locality in Barry, a large number of the residents are retired.

Many of them, who do not own a car, are being denied the public service transport they require to visit the Vale's other centres at Penarth and Cowbridge without the need to change from one service to another.

Our MP and others keep banging on for the need to treble the size of the airport with all the infrastructure that will be required, including a new highway through the Vale to enable outsiders from far afield to drive through and fly out to sunnier climes - leaving the Vale residents to choke on the increased CO2 emissions which will only serve to further downgrade the Vale as a tourist destination in its own right.

The speed of traffic and the parking difficulties throughout Barry are daunting for even short journeys.

High Street (where employees of the numerous businesses take up parking space denying access to shoppers), Holton Road and the town centre are choked with vehicle emissions and now, in my 75th year, I am faced with having to add further to the problem by a greater use of my car now that we are denied an adequate bus service.
