ON the last Saturday in March, Barry FC players Kevin Owens and Haydn Stait organised a highly successful evening at KR's Nightspot.
And they raised close to a staggering £3,000 in support of the Jamie Adamson Memorial Fund, for which they will also be running next week's London Marathon.
At a packed KR's, there were friends, families and well-wishers among the hundreds who were present, enjoying the atmosphere in the name of a good cause and raising the superb total.
Jamie's father Paul, gave a brief introduction to the event, explaining the tragic circumstances in which the family now found themselves raising money for children's leukaemia charities.
This was followed by an auction, raising nearly £600 through four items - a guitar donated from Crane's Music Store in Cardiff; a signed copy of the Local Boy in the Photograph, seven-inch single by the Stereophonics; a signed photograph (with certificate of authenticity) of the 2005-06 Arsenal team; and a rugby ball signed by the current squad of Swansea-Neath Ospreys.
Among raffle items were a signed Everton team photo, a matchball signed by Ryan Giggs, a meal for two from the Casa Paco restaurant on Broad Street, hair care from Kajo's Hair Studio and many more.
The highlight of the night was undoubtedly the cabaret, performed by Kevin, Haydn and friends.
Dressed as the Village People, the lads took us through the moves to YMCA, to the obvious enjoyment of the crowd, Haydn in costume as a Native Indian and Kevin dressed as a construction worker, with thanks to Just Fancy for the loan of the costumes.
Everyone had a great night, now all they have to do is think of the 26 miles and 385 yards that they still have to run.
Good luck lads!
