Town fiasco

ONCE again we have the owner and chairman of Barry Town AFC appealing at the last moment for a reprieve so that his side can play at Jenner Park next season instead of Barry Town FC.

If Mr Lovering had reasonably negotiated 14 months ago with the council, who by all accounts were sympathetic to the high valuation figure set by the District Valuer, then his appeal would have some weight.

Instead he walked away, and wasted the last year by not setting up bridges with the council.

Now it is a last minute panic, and according to your report Thursday, March 30, the council had still not received any correspondence.

If and when this letter is received it is understood he is laying down his own terms, and demanding a 25 year usage of Jenner Park. Such temerity is not going to be well received.

Finally, two of the three letter writers in last week"s issue do not, I am sure, regularly attend Barry Town"s games, and are unaware of the massive goodwill by the supporters that he so dismissed and spurned two years ago.

However, there would be nothing better than everyone getting together to get Barry Town playing in Welsh and European games of the highest level that we had just over two years ago.
