Rubbish

I WOULD like to comment on the recent strike by council workers.

I feel very disappointed by the conduct of the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

They knew this strike was coming but they have failed to keep their customers, the council tax payers, informed. Yet again!

Tuesday is the bin day for us on Barry Island, the same day as the strike. I like many others thought that the rubbish would be cleared on Wednesday as it is when we have a bank holiday.

This has not happened and it appears that we will have to wait until next week for collection, which has resulted in bags of rubbish being left all over the area.

This is not the fault of the residents but the Vale Council who have decided not to advise us of what to do.

Whether the strikers have a case is difficult to see, unlike the disgusting mess we on the Island have to put up with.

*While many householders were unaware of the course of action they should take, the Barry and District News would like to point out that we carried a report on page of 3 of the March 23 issue, referring to rubbish collection, which read: "In the event industrial action, the Vale of Glamorgan Council has announced that there will be no refuse and recycling collections. Residents are asked not to put out their refuse or recycling for collection on Tuesday, March 28, and to keep it for the following week"s collection."
