Matthew beats former world champion

YOUNGMatthew Laver recently played - and beat - snooker legend Cliff Thorburn.

Matthew won his way to the final of a snooker competition which saw him play an exhibition against the former world champion.

Ten players had the opportunity to take on Cliff, and only three managed to beat him.

Matthew took the lead with a 37 break and then laid several snookers which enabled him to consolidate, and Cliff shook his hand to concede.

This gave the local lad the win of the night, and also the highest break.

Matthew would like to thank everyone for their support, especially Sue and Brian of the Harbour Snooker Club, all staff and members of Barry Dock Conservative Club, and all his friends and family.

Gaynor and Philip, his mother and father, wish him all the best for the up- and-coming competitions within the WBSA and other competitions he is about to enter.
