Pair prepare for trek challenge

THE sky's the limit for two airport workers from Barry as they prepare to trek to the base camp of Mount Everest to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

Kay Clarke, 50, and Kim Coombs, 48, hope to raise more than 6,000 on the trek, and are preparing for the endeavour by enlisting their dogs to help with regular walks.

Grandmother Kay said: "The trek is on February 20 next year. We need to raise 3,000 each, but we are doing it together.

"Kim asked me if I wanted to accompany her in the Everest Trek, to which I replied'I can't make it tomorrow, I'm working!'"

Since losing her son, David, two years ago, Kim has become very active in charitable fundraising stunts, all performed in memory of David.

She said: "I'm very excited by the challenge, although it's not the first stunt I've done.

"I've done two parachute jumps, abseiling, a zip slide, white water rafting and I've run the Race for Life.

"This is definitely one of the biggest challenges we've done."

To help them raise the funds needed for the big trek, Kim and Kay are planning a host of events including a summer ball - although in the meantime, the duo have already been busy fundraising at Cardiff International Airport.

"I've got a collection at the airport," said Kim.
