Teenager denies rape

A DEAF woman was kissing the Barry teenager accused of raping her, her friend told a jury yesterday.

Daryl Davies, aged 18, met the 43-year-old woman during a night out, and returned to a friend's flat where they carried on drinking.

Davies and the 43-year-old chatted, wrote each other notes and kissed on a sofa, Cardiff Crown Court was told.

The friend said: "She and Daryl were on the sofa chatting and writing each other notes - they were kissing for a few minutes and then I went to bed.

"The next morning I saw my friend and I asked her if she slept all right. She signed it was OK."

But the deaf woman denies kissing the 17-year-old who tried to seduce her with rude notes asking for sex.

She says Davies wouldn't leave her alone and forced her to have sex with him after others had gone to bed.

Davies allegedly began propositioning her by writing on scraps of paper - but the woman said she was not interested because he was too young.

The jury was shown copies of the notes passed between the pair on the night.

Prosecutor Martyn Kelly said: "They were writing each other notes on bits of envelope and she made it perfectly clear she didn't want sex.

"She was sitting on a sofa when Davies tried to force her to perform a sex act on him.

"She became scared about staying in the room and went to a bedroom to go to sleep.

"He followed her in and pushed her on to the bed. Afterwards, he said he was sorry and told her he loved her and asked if she loved him too. She said:'No.'."

The court heard Davies, who was 17 at the time of the alleged attack last October, proposed to the woman as he cuddled her in bed.

Davies fell asleep and the woman left the room to raise the alarm.

Davies denies rape, claiming the woman consented to sex.
