Town toilets

I AM grateful to reader Mrs Klee of Gladstone Road, whose article appeared in the Barry & District News on February 16, and which concerned the lack of public toilets in the town.

It is an issue that I have constantly referred to over many years.

I even photographed almost all the remaining toilets a few years ago, including the one shown in the article.

At that time most were in a very unkempt condition but since then, all credit to the Vale"s Cleansing Department, they have been very well looked after with a twice-a-day service.

I was not aware until Mrs Klee"s article which pictured the most uninviting of the only two public toilets left in the town (the other one is situated in Thompson Street), that they had been closed.

With Dan Evans closing, that removed another "comfort zone" for shoppers.

I am concerned as to how the market traders will fare without the Court Road facility and where will they wash their hands?

I am hoping that when the new library opens that there will be sufficient toilets for everyone to use and that they will be spacious because sadly local authorities do not give users enough elbow room.
