Victory for Holton

WEIGHBRIDGE HOTSPUR 0 HOLTON ROAD 4

AFTER last week's league postponement, Holton Road were back in action on Sunday in the quarter finals of the Bridgend and District Sunday League Cup, and travelled to Bridgend to take on Weighbridge Hotspur in cold and windy conditions.

The big difference in their league positions pointed to a victory for Holton.

However, the home side made the Barry men work hard from start to finish and this coupled with a lack of clinical finishing meant the final scoreline was by no means a foregone conclusion.

Holton's first goal came in 15 minutes with midfield maestro James Prosser converting from the spot after he was tripped in the box.

Dan Smolinski then made it 2-0 for Holton on 30 minutes after a great through ball from Nathan Roberts. To their credit Weighbridge kept the deficit to 0-2 at half time.

Holton's star striker Ben Taylor was rested in the first half but came on for Damien Lack after half time.

It was no surprise that their top scorer slotted home on 70 minutes to make it 3-0.

With five minutes to go the lively Nathan Roberts scored a superb fourth, blasting high into the Weighbridge net from ten yards after some great build up play on the left.

So it finished a respectable 4-0 for Holton who now go into the hat for the semi-finals with their confidence high.

This week's man of the match award deservedly went to Dave Short for his stalwart defensive performance in the back line.
