Town honour

PRIDE In Barry is delighted to announce the establishment of its' Ambassador Awards Scheme, to recognise and encourage individuals, organisations and businesses who promote civic pride in Barry.

This exciting scheme aims to create ambassadors across a broad range of ages and sectors.

Ambassadors are people with a pride in their town who are prepared to shout loudly about the strengths, characteristics and opportunities of the town - a great place to live, work and visit.

Paul Haley, chair of Pride In Barry, has revealed that Barry Town Council has agreed to sponsor the Ambassador of the Year Award.

Mr Haley said: "We are absolutely delighted that Barry Town Council has recognised the potential of this scheme, and has had the vision to become our first sponsor."

He added: "This will be presented to the individual, company or organisation that during 2006 has been viewed as outstanding in most meeting the Pride In Barry mission of raising awareness of the character, strengths and opportunities of Barry - at a local, national or international level."

Councillor Dennis Harkus, leader of Barry Town Council, said: "The town council recognises the potential of the Ambassador Award Scheme for building community spirit, whilst at the same time rewarding those whose positive acts and achievements have helped and continue to help put Barry'on the map'.

"Barry Town Council is pleased to sponsor the main award in Pride in Barry's initiative, the Ambassador of the Year Award, and hopes that other individuals and organisations will soon come forward to sponsor other annual awards available as part of this scheme."
