Kickboxing success

THE first Welsh Kickboxing Association Open Tournament's huge success creates a pathway for clubs in Wales to become part of an elite organisation running tournaments within Wales and offering help and support for Welsh clubs and groups.

The tournament was held at Aberdare Leisure Centre, boasting eight areas of continuous sparring both semi and light contact. Many clubs from Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland attended including fighters from as far as France and India.

The following students from the Welsh Academy of Martial Arts, which is based at the YMCA Gladstone Road Barry, and the Black Cats Kickboxing Gym, which is based at the YMCA Roath, Cardiff, achieved the highest level in both Semi-Contact and Light Contact Divisions: seven 1st places, five 2nd places, five 3rd places.

Ninja Kids under eight years:

Joshua Harris age 7 - 1st Place Semi-Contact, 1st Place Light Contact.

Jamie Rasis age 9 - 1st Place Semi-Contact, 3rd Place Light Contact.

Kyron Caddick, age 8 - 2nd Place Semi-Contact (Kyron being quite poorly on the day but fought like a champ), 2nd Place Light Contact losing by one point.

Kiya Glanvile age 7 -1st Place Light Contact.

Thomas Harris age 8 - 3rd Place Light Contact losing by one point.

Under 13 years

Ryan Newman age 12 - 1st Place Semi-Contact, 1st Place Light Contact.

Joshua Barker age 12 - 1st Place Light Contact, 3rd Place Semi-Contact.

Chris Short age 13 - 2nd Place Semi-Contact losing by one point.

Cardiff Club:

Under 13 years

Joshua Cussack age 12 - 3rd Light Contact.

James Jones age 9 - 3rd Light Contact.

Under 16 years

Jordan Cussak age 16 - 2nd Semi-Contact, 2nd Light Contact.

All these students are a credit to their instructor, families and the Vale of Glamorgan where they all attend their various schools.
