TRIBUTES have been paid to a woman whose voluntary work has played a significant part in the life of Barry's Rondel House Day Centre since it opened more than 25 years ago.
Joan Jones, aged 73, has attended the centre since 1979 to support her husband Mac, and is a staunch member of the committee along with Maisie Lewis (WRVS) and Edith Frayling.
During a reception hosted by Vale Mayor Cllr Margaret Alexander, Day Centre Manager Carol Watts said Joan's fundraising efforts had help provide entertainment, day trips and parties for thousands who had attended the centre over the years.
She often sought the help of organisations such as Round Table and Hypervalue, who had generously provided donations for her parties.
Thanking Joan on behalf of the staff and clients of Rondel House, Carol said: "Joan and I meet regularly to discuss what's needed, and off she goes to plan her campaign.
"Her energy and drive never cease to amaze me.
"She is often seen with a car boot full of goodies for the centre."
