Hospital bus gets back on the road

BARRY people can once again travel on a bus straight through to the University Hospital of Wales after the service was resumed.

The service, which leaves the West side of Barry every half an hour, was returned on Monday.

The bus route was dropped for a while, and people travelling from Barry to UHW had to change bus in Cardiff central bus station.

Cardiff and the Vale NHS Trust decided to resume the service following a meeting between trust representatives and Barry Town Council.

At the meeting, Labour town councillor June Germon complained that having to change bus in the centre of Cardiff while on her way to UHW meant that an hour-long appointment took up the best part of the day.

Cllr Germon said: "I think the return of the bus service is marvellous.

"Once I had to go for a hospital appointment in the Heath at 10.10am, and because I had to change bus in Cardiff, I got back to Barry at 4pm.

"This is really good for people who haven't got a car. I really hoped that the trust would do some thing after the meeting. I'm really overjoyed."

The X45 service runs every hour from Barry to UHW, stopping at Llandough Hospital.

And the X46 service, which also runs every hour, goes via Cardiff Bay.
