HOLTON ROAD AFC 3
THE OYSTER (Bryntirion) 2
IN THEIR first home game for several weeks and at a highly charged Barry Buttrills on Sunday, this Bridgend and District Sunday League Division 2 match produced everything that could have been expected between third placed Holton Road and top of the table side Oyster from Bryntirion.
The men from Bryntirion led 2-0 at half time but after another great second half performance it was Holton who clinched the 3 points to leave The Oyster'shell shocked'.
On a heavy pitch, in the first half Holton produced some good football but spurned several good chances including a missed penalty and seeing a'goal' chalked off for alleged hand ball.
The Oyster capitalised on a goal line scramble to go in front, then doubled their lead before half time when converting a penalty after a Holton player was adjudged to have brought down an Oyster forward in the box.
It was a different story in the second half. Holton stuck to manager Damien Lack's game plan and this soon reaped rewards.
On 55 minutes, after sustained attacking play, Holton's Joshua Maisy slotted home a cross to make it 1-2.
On 70 minutes, midfield maestro James Prosser equalised courtesy of a superb curling drive which the despairing keeper was only able to finger tip on its way high into the Oyster net.
At 2-2 the scene was set for a tense climax and it was fitting that with just a few minutes remaining, Holton's prolific scorer Ben Taylor pounced to score the winner after steering a low drive into The Oyster net after some great build up play on the left.
This win maintained Holton's 100% home record and the three points sets up an exciting League finale.
Holton now have a real chance of promotion with just 3 League games remaining.
There were several fine performances in this match notably Michael O'Brien in defence, James Prosser in midfield and Ben Taylor in attack. However, Luke Brodie Miles was deservedly named man of the match for his solid performance at centre back.
