Leader"s anger over snub claim

THE leader of the council has hit back at claims that the "Conservative controlled council has snubbed" Labour pleas to clean up the Colcot.

Last week, the Barry and District News contained an article in which Gibbonsdown ward member Cllr Rob Curtis, and other Labour councillors, attacked the council for "ignoring" the state of the Colcot estate.

But leader Jeff James denied the claims that Labour councillors ever raised the issue of the Colcot to him.

Cllr James told the Barry and District News: "Not one of the members has spoken to me on these issues and I am more than willing to meet the councillors and ask the council officers concerned to investigate the problems and advise me of any action needed to be taken.

The leader added: "I am disappointed to learn that the Labour members with complaints chose to make remarks to the press.

"And I am also concerned that the local members have allowed this situation to get as bad as they report."

Cllr Curtis retaliated: "I am appalled that the leader does not know of some of the most serious problems that his council is struggling with. All he has to do is attend one or two of the scrutiny committee meetings."
