COLCOT 2 BARRY FC 0
BARRY FC lost their second straight game on Saturday; the Linnets suffering their first away defeat of the league season against a hungry Colcot side.
Manager Ashley Griffiths made a number of changes from the previous loss to St Athan, adding the experienced Haydn Stait in the centre, while replacing the unwell Kevin Owens with Nathan Nurton up front.
The game's main talking point came after twenty minutes; when Ben Taylor chased a flighted ball into the penalty area, only to be clattered to the ground by Colcot goalkeeper Richard Sims.
Taylor himself took the ensuing penalty, but the notably dazed striker's shot was weak and Sims saved comfortably low to his left.
This proved to be a turning point in the match, with Barry, frustrated at the lack of a card or a goal, seemingly losing all focus.
Colcot, who had been on the back foot for much of the half, soon began to inch their way into the game.
The men in old gold took the lead shortly after the restart, Anthony Davies capitalising on a hesitation in the Barry defence
Barry then suffered another blow when the energetic Mattie Davy, himself a former Colcot player, was injured and had to be substituted.
Compounding their misery, the home side effectively finished off the Linnets when Craig Donnelly scored from a well-worked counter-attack.
The Linnets would have their share of pressure late on, but never really threatened the Colcot goal to any great extent.
Ultimately Colcot would hold on to the win, and in turn pull away from Barry in a Vale League table altered by the recent withdrawal of Dinas Powys.
Their victory also means Colcot are the first team to have completed a double over the newly formed Barry outfit, after also taking the points at Jenner Park in August.
Having somewhat lost their way in the league, Barry will be grateful for the respite of the cup this weekend, when they travel to Swanbridge to meet Sully in the ASRS competition (kick-off 1.45pm).
Barry will hope to get their season back on track in this tie, after running out 5-1 winners in the sides, previous encounter.
Meanwhile, the club held a successful first Linnets Lotto evening on Monday, with over £100 of tickets being sold.
The winning numbers were 2, 7, 9, 10, 13 and 15. There were no winners; meaning next week,s draw at The Castle in Jewel Street sees the pot increase to £350, with numbers being selected from 1-19.
