HOLTON ROAD 5 - THE WALNUT (KENFIG HILL) 2
AFTER a first half scare, Holton Road maintained their 100 per cent home record in the Bridgend and District Sunday Football League Division 2 with this 5-2 victory over The Walnut at a foggy Barry Buttrills last Sunday.
Possibly due to their exertions in last week's league victory over Carne, Holton started slowly and looked uncharacteristically sluggish in the first half.
The home side did have a few chances early on but it was the men from Kenfig Hill who shocked Holton with two first-half goals against no reply.
The Walnut's first goal came from a penalty on 35 minutes after Courtney Frasinelli was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box.
The Walnut's second resulted from a free kick fired in low from 18 yards.
At half time, Holton manager Damien Lack gave his team a'wake up call' and introduced Dan Smolinski after a long lay off through injury.
As a result it was a different story in the second half with the determined Holton finding their form and firing in five goals.
The first in 55 minutes was a spectacular effort from Jason Rowlands who volleyed an unstoppable angled drive from 25 yards after a great cross field pass - this is surely a major contender for goal of the season!
Boosted by this, a minute later Sam Webb hit the equaliser chipping the Walnut keeper after good build up work.
The pressure from Holton continued relentlessly with man of the match Dan Smolinski latching on to another through ball to slot home on 79 minutes.
Soon after it was 4-2 to Holton - James Prosser netting from the spot after Ben Taylor was fouled in the box.
Not unexpectedly it was Ben Taylor himself who rounded off the scoring in 85 minutes to make the final result 5-2.
After a fine run of victories, this win puts Holton Road in second place and keeps them well in contention for the top spot .
