BARRY FC 5 SULLY 1
WHEN THE two teams met in the Vale of Glamorgan League Premier Division earlier in the season, it was a tense affair and the spoils were shared in a 1-1 draw.
Back then, Barry FC was still very much finding its feet, but it was clear to all who at Jenner Park on Sat-urday which team had made the most progress since.
The first half was dominated by a debut hat-trick from Ben Taylor, the first goal coming from an expertly placed free-kick by player-manager Ashley Griffiths which was flicked out of the hands of Niblett in the Sully goal in the 21st minute.
Minutes later, Taylor again found himself in space inside the Sully area and chose to shoot, wrong-footing Niblett once more.
On the stroke of half-time, Taylor teamed up with Matt Dawson down the right-wing and, as Taylor strode into the box, he was brought down by Thomas Prosser.
The resulting penalty by Taylor was duly slotted past a now miserable Niblett for 3-0.
In fairness, 3-0 was a little harsh on Sully, who in fact had the better of the early chances when the scores were still 0-0.
Things didn't improve for Sully soon after the break when Barry stretched their lead to 4-0.
In easily the best move of the day, Taylor spotted Mattie Davy in space and passed the ball from the corner flag to the edge of the penalty box.
Davy quickly nudged the ball to Kevin Owens, who cleverly back-heeled the ball back into the path of Davy, who had continued his run into the box.
The resulting shot was a somewhat weak affair, but still managed to outwit the Sully keeper.
A consolation goal for Sully was gifted by Damien Lack when Nick Chung found himself with the ball in front of an empty net, but Barry had the last word when Christian Powell - who had an inspired second half down the left side - dug a cross out from nowhere right on the Sully byline into the six-yard box.
With more than a hint of own goal about it, the ball was hit into the roof of the Sully net for the Linnets to wrap proceedings up at 5-1.
This was Barry FC's sixth straight game unbeaten in the League, winning five of them, but Harrison Forse - Barry's next opponents this Saturday - have already proved they can put one over on the green and whites.
Playing back in October, the Forse stunned Barry by coming back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Jenner Park. Kick-off at Buttrills is 2pm.
