HOLTON ROAD AFC 4
CARNE ROVERS AFC 0
DAMIEN Lack's Holton side moved up to third spot in the Bridgend and District Sunday League Division 2 table as a result of one of their best performances of the season - in a hard-fought match at a soggy Barry Buttrills, against the men from Blaengarw, last weekend.
Against the run of play, an early penalty award was given to the away side after the referee adjudged a Holton defender to have brought down a Carne attacker in the box.
But a superb diving save from Holton's Luis Escott prevented Carne taking the lead.
This spurred Holton into positive action and star striker Ben Taylor rounded the Carne keeper on 25 minutes to make the score 1-0 to Holton.
Holton's smooth passing play soon earned a second goal - this time from Courtney Frassineli, who struck on 29 minutes after Carne failed to clear a goalbound effort from Nathan Roberts.
The visitors tried desperately to get back into the match, but found Holton's defenders in no mood to concede.
When Carne did breach Holton's stalwart defence they found keeper Luis Escott in unbeatable form, and he made a number of great saves to keep a well-deserved clean sheet.
It was only a matter of time before Holton's continued pressure paid off, and on 60 minutes, Ben Taylor pounced to net after Frassineli's effort rebounded off a post, to make it 3-0.
On 80 minutes, Ben Taylor was brought down in the box - a clear penalty award - and Taylor himself coolly slotted home to notch yet another hat trick and clinch a 4-0 victory.
All of the Holton players deserve credit for a determined and clinical team display on the day - but keeper Luis Escott and defender Dave Short were awarded joint Man of the Match awards for their inspiring individual performances.
