Barrys welcome is a sign of the times

VISITORS have always been welcome in Barry - but from April 2006 they will be even more so.

Five brightly coloured Welcome to Barry signs are set to be erected at the side of all the main roads into the town.

The 5,000 signs, which are being paid for by the Vale of Glamorgan Council, will be sited on the A4226, Cardiff Road, Port Road West and Port Road East.

They will have the words Welcome to Barry - Please Drive Carefully and Croeso I'r Barri - Gyrrwch Yn Ofalus inscribed in yellow on a black background, and they will also display the Barry crest.

There are already 140 similar signs on display throughout the Vale - paid for by Creative Rural Community.

But Barry, Penarth and Sully did not qualify for any.

However, the Vale Council says that in addition to the five Barry signs, it will also be providing three signs for Penarth and two signs for Sully.
