SEVEN lifeguards from Vale of Glamorgan leisure centres have added swimming teacher training status to their qualifications portfolios.
Following recent examination successes, staff from Barry (Jonny McGowen and Carys Jones), Llantwit Major (Delyth Hewitt and Rhian Rees) and Penarth (Jenny Hunt, Alun Steen and Kate Angove) centres obtained their Amateur Swimming Association Level 1 qualification.
All seven employees will receive certificates acknowledging their excellent individual achievements, and will aim next year to complete the second phase of the trilogy of ASA courses.
As part of the Level 1 course, the recreational assistants undertook a one-and-a-half hours theory examination at Penarth, and a practical assessment at Barry.
Vale leisure centres will soon be offering the ASA qualification to members of the public, allowing individuals to pay and train at local facilities.
Swimming Development Officer, Linda Smith, said: "We were delighted that so many of our staff chose to further their skill set. We welcome them to our dedicated team of swimming instructors."
