New MD takes over at B&D head offices

THE Barry and District News' parent company, Newsquest Wales and Gloucestershire, has a new regional managing director.

Gavin Steacy took over this week from Eileen Opie, who retired at the end of December.

Having started his newspaper career in 1982 with Belfast Telegraph Newspapers Ltd, he subsequently held a number of senior positions within the Trinity Mirror Group.

These have included Regional Managing Director Western Mail & Echo in Wales, Business Development Director Trinity Mirror Regionals Division, and Change Development Director Trinity Mirror Regionals Division, both working out of Canary Wharf London.

His last role was Regional Managing Director, Trinity Mirror South running business units stretching from Dorset through London to Kent.

He has a Masters in Business Administration.

For relaxation, he enjoys the occasional round of golf and spending time with the family with his partner Nia and four children.

He will be based in our Newport head office.
