ASSEMBLY health minister Brian Gibbons is visiting the site of a planned new hi-tech surgery with local AM Jane Hutt today.
Mr Gibbons will talk to local GPs about their plans for the new surgery on the waterfront, near the new waterfront community centre, which will improve services for patients and allow the surgery to take advantage of new technology.
A relocation of the Towers surgery, Holton Road, it will house seven doctors with the potential to increase to nine.
The new surgery is due to open in September or October of this year.
Mr Gibbons said: The new surgery on the waterfront sounds like an exciting project that will deliver quality local healthcare for people in Barry.
As a GP myself, I know how important it is for patients to be seen and treated in comfortable, modern and practical surroundings. This is what the new surgery will deliver when it opens in the autumn.
Most people s only experience of our health service is at their local surgery, which is why it is crucial that as a caring Labour government committed to a modern, universal and free NHS, we continue to invest in our local health services, to help them become even more responsive to local needs.
Jane Hutt said: The new surgery will be another step in the regeneration of Barry and the transformation of our waterfront.
The blend of affordable housing, new apartments and shopping facilities has transformed the waterfront and done wonders for the image of Barry.
There could be no better place for a new GPs surgery that will offer its patients the very best in primary healthcare.
There will be other surgery developments on the waterfront and I will do all I can to support the work of the GPs and staff to ensure their projects are successful.
