THE Vale of Glamorgan Council has become the first local authority in Wales to work with charity to recycle phones.
Thanks to a new scheme launched by the Council, in partnership with the national charity Guide Dogs, the area's residents can now help raise money for a local guide dog puppy by recycling old mobile phones.
Up to five million people in the country will be treating themselves to a new phone this Christmas, and donating an old one is an excellent way to help charities.
For every mobile phone recycled, Guide Dogs will receive 3.50 to help support its vital work in bringing independence and freedom to visually-impaired people. By recycling just one mobile, an individual can help raise enough money to feed a guide dog for five days.
Cllr Geoff Cox, Vale Cabinet Member for Visible Services, donated two old phones to the scheme, and said: "We need 1,600 phones to train and support one puppy so I would ask everyone to recycle their unwanted phones."
