Fish fail to join in the festive spirit

THE SECOND leg of Sea View Lads Angling Club Xmas competition was fiercely contested with 40 members competing.

On a bitterly cold but otherwise ideal day, many anglers caught fish - but with 18'blankers,' the total day's catch was well below that of previous years.

The winner on the day was Kevin Gardner, with a bag of eels including an 8lb fish that also won him the pool and prize for Best Eel and Heaviest Fish.

The elusive codling appeared in three of the top six weights, with Chippie Kinder's fish of 3lb 9oz narrowly beating Paul Crook and Bob Harris's fish of 3lb 8oz and 3lb 7oz. Steve Davies and Aida were in the top six mix.

Kevin also won the Eddie Frost Shield, to wrap up a successful year that included winning the Bert Peterson Trophy just a few weeks before.

The overall Christmas competition was jointly won by Gary Morgan and Paul Crook, with Glyn Warner runner-up, followed by Kevin Salih, Lee Thompson and in joint sixth place Mickey Langford, Nigel Grant and Stringfellow. Last place, with 2oz (over two legs) was taken by Paul Coles.

After the event, the anglers were treated to a good feed and special thanks were given to Jo Peterson for his efforts, along with Kevin for making sense of the results.

Members thanked Tony Gwyther and president Alan Peterson for their efforts.

Tonight's meeting is the last one for letters before the AGM and any nominations for committee positions would be welcomed. Merry Christmas all.
