Magnificent seven for Linnets

SLOWLY but surely, Barry are putting something of a run together in the Vale of Glamorgan Premier League.

This was their fourth consecutive victory and their most comprehensive to date.

With 18 goals scored and only six conceded in those four wins, Barry are proving their doubters wrong.

Although Dinas Powys are a troubled side at the moment and have failed to turn up for recent fixtures, Barry can only compete with the team that"s on the field with them.

At Bryn y Don on Saturday, they more than competed - they utterly dominated a game that ensured the young club goes into the Christmas break with its head held high.

Times were tough at the beginning of the season when players hardly knew each other"s names, let alone playing style, but the Linnets are now a cohesive unit that will take on any team in this League.

Ben Taylor opened up the scoring on 15 minutes, despite an initial fine stop by the Dinas keeper, who then bravely denied Kevin Owens at close range, but couldn"t stop him scoring Barry"s second on the half-hour mark.

Though there were no further goals prior to the break, Barry did manage to hit the bar twice.

They dominated proceedings in the second half, with goals from Ben Taylor, James Dawson and Mattie Davy.

Taylor was substituted for his father Paul - who then went on to score Barry"s sixth goal.

Davy rounded things off - and celebrated his own excellent performance - with a seventh Barry goal. The Dinas consolation goal came in the final minutes, and although everyone was disappointed at not keeping a rare clean sheet, you can"t argue with another three points gained.

*The proposed charity friendly with Cadoxton Cons has been cancelled, so Barry are now not in action again until January 6, when the Linnets will face extremely tough opposition in the form of Rhoose. Barry are unbeaten away from home, and Rhoose would certainly be a fine scalp to take. For the latest news, gossip and photos log on to www.forzabarry.co.uk
