THE Barry Island-based Eagles Gym Welsh team recently took part in a tournament held in Birmingham under the watchful eye of chief instructor for Wales Peter Stewart.
The team consisted of children from the age of five, up to adults.
All of them fought under Thai boxing rules, which is the art of the eight weapons - fists, elbows, knees and legs. At this tournament, however, no elbows were allowed.
The team left early after the snowfall the day before to ensure that they would arrive on time.
The atmosphere on the coach on the way was electric, all being keen to impress their supporters.
Each one fought three one-minute rounds with the youngest, two girls aged five, battling against one another, and, even though they are the best of friends outside the ring, they gave it their all.
There was a great team spirit from the Eagles team with all members cheering on their fighter, whether a child or adult.
All of the team came back with great results.
Peter Stewart said "I am proud of all of them; they all worked hard in training so that they could compete in this tournament and were all back training the following week."
The next tournament will be in the New Year.
