Young pair share lead in Peter Pan

A PAIR of budding thespians will be representing Barry this Christmas by enchanting audiences in a major production of the classic tale of Peter Pan.

Nick Shirring and Luke Perry, who are both just eight, will be treading the boards of Cardiff's New Theatre over the festive period.

The youngsters will be sharing the main role of Michael Darling over the 34 performances.

Nick, a pupil a Romilly Junior School, and Luke, who attends Ysgol Sant Curig, were chosen from dozens of boys at the audition.

Nick's mum, Jo, said: "I was absolutely gobsmacked when I found out they'd got the parts. But the judges said Nick and Luke had blown them away."

Both of the lads are seasoned performers, with Luke having been a member of Barry-based BillBoard Ensemble since he was four, and Nick since he was six.

Peter Pan will be Nick's first professional role, however Luke played a minor part in the recent series of Dr Who.

And whereas Luke is keener on acting, Nick is a talented dancer, who idolises Billy Elliott.

Lisa, Luke's mum, and who is also a member of BillBoard Ensemble, said: "I am very proud of Luke. But when he gets on stage, I'll be more nervous than him! He just takes it in his stride."
