A RECYCLING hero called'Land Phil' paid a visit to Ty Hafan Children's Hospice last week for the launch of an all-Wales recycling strategy.
Land Phil, alias Tyrone O'Sullivan, will be used to raise awareness of the benefits of recycling to charitable schemes and educational projects throughout Wales.
He is the brainwave of Jenny Lewis and Nadean Postlethwaite - the joint directors of Land Phil Recycling Ltd.
The company will provide businesses, schools, organisations or groups with a free recycling box in which they place their empty laser and inkjet cartridges. The box is then collected free of charge, audited and given a monetary value.
The money will then go directly to support Ty Hafan and other charitable causes.
Jenny said: "As a company we are committed to providing an all-Wales approach to this strategy, forging links with businesses, community organisations, charities, educational projects for schools and environmental projects.
"We feel as a company that Land Phil, and what it stands for, will embrace the youngsters in Wales and include them into our objectives."
Ty Hafan's business development manager Mary Canham is delighted to be involved in the project.
She said: "Ty Hafan needs to raise 8,000 a day to keep running, and a scheme like this receives our full support."
Land Phil is also being backed by local MP John Smith and Vale AM Jane Hutt, plus by businesses such as Lloyds TSB, Barclays Bank, Computers in the Community and Business in the Community.
