Pupils follow minister"s lead in charity project

A BARRY school has been inspired by a local minster to help disadvantaged children in Third World countries.

The Rev Gerwin Marshelea, the Pastor of Coastlands Family Church, promoted the charity Operation Christmas Child on a recent visit to Colcot Primary School.

The children were shown a video recording revealing African children receiving a shoebox filled with gifts to brighten and lift their spirits at a time when the world celebrates Christmas.

Having viewed the delight on the children's faces, pupils were motivated to pack boxes full of toiletries, toys, stationary and other small gifts.

Within two weeks, pupils and staff collected 57 boxes and donated 2 per box to contribute towards postage and packaging.

The Rev Gerwin Marshella returned to the school to collect the packages on Friday, November 18, while another fundraising event was taking place.

That day the children collected 250 for Children in Need by wearing their own clothes.

The Rev Marshella was delighted with the mass of boxes and thanked the children for their generosity and commitment in helping under-privileged children worldwide.
