Cadets raise cash for Remembrance

RECENTLY, cadets from 372 Barry Sqn sold poppies in aid of The Royal British Legion at local supermarkets including Tesco and Lidl.

The cadets did exceptionally well, filling many tins with donations and emptying boxes of poppies in the blink of an eye.

Hundreds of pounds were raised to support past and present service men and women of the forces.

The precise total has not yet been counted, but from the number of tins that were collected they know that it is a vast amount.

Their service to the Royal British Legion is their way of paying their respects to the soldiers of all wars.

The hours they spent at the supermarkets were followed by each cadet taking part in the Remembrance parade through Barry on November 13.

Flt Lt Dave Crandon, Officer Commanding 372 Barry Squadron, said: "The cadets put on their best uniform and their smiling faces and the public were impressed.

"Many members of the public stopped and spoke to the cadets and the cadets were interested in what they had to say about the war.

"It's nice to see the cadets putting in the effort for such a cause and everyone at 372 Barry sqn are so proud.

"We enjoy helping out and are glad that it gets noticed by the community."

The cadets not only collect for the Royal British Legion, but throughout the year they have collected for Ty Hafan, Battle of Britain Wing Appeal and Barry Hospital.

The cadets now look forward to a summer packed with flying, gliding, target shooting, hill walking and other exhilaration activities.
