Friends reunited by chance encounter

A CHANCE meeting on Holton Road brought two friends together again after 50 years.

Shelagh Stelling, aged 69, and 72-year-old Marion Davies first met each other when they were aged 15 and 18, working at a glove factory in Barry.

The pair lost contact when they were shipped to different Navy bases in the 1950s, but finally found each other while walking through Barry town centre a few weeks ago.

And Shelagh and Marion, who are both widowed, have spent as much time as they can with one another since, catching up with the events of the past 50 years and reminiscing about their past exploits.

"We are hoping to make the most of our friendship now," said Marion, who lives on Phyllis Street.

"Meeting each other again has made us feel younger and we are so happy.

"We see each other about once a week, and spend the afternoon together just chatting. It's wonderful!

"When we were younger we had a great time together. We just did things for fun," she added

"And we still look at the men now!"

Shelagh, who lives on Marlborough Close, said they hope to go on day trips together.

"But only when the weather gets better," she added.
