THE actions of a 12-year-old girl to help out the victim of a burglary have certainly proved that community spirit is alive and well in Cadoxton.
Chantelle Fazloodin, of Cadoc Crescent, felt so sorry for an elderly neighbour who had money stolen from her purse by a conman that she decided to do something to help.
So the St Cyres School pupil single-handedly lobbied residents in her street and neighbouring streets, carrying the article that appeared in last week"s edition of the Barry and District News. She eventually managed to collect £90 - the amount that was taken.
Chantelle"s uncle, Mark Miller, said: "Not many 12-year-olds would do something like that, especially in the cold and the dark.
"What comes out of this is that we are a close community, and we won"t stand for people coming in and stealing from us."
The victim of the burglary, a 76-year-old woman who does not wish to be named, described Chantelle"s gesture as "absolutely lovely".
A man called at her home, telling her she had a water leak. When the resident went to check her taps, the man entered the house and stole the money from her purse.
