A VALE police woman has resigned after falsely claiming 4,200 in tax credits for childcare.
Cardiff Crown Court heard that Jaqueline Cadigan, aged 37, of Rhoose Point, Rhoose, submitted tax claims over three years, saying she was paying up to 150 a week for childcare.
But the court heard Cadigan paid no more than 60 - and netted 4,200 in tax credits she was not entitled to.
She denied four counts of false accounting but was found guilty by a jury at Cardiff Crown Court.
The New-Zealand born policewoman has resigned from South Wales Police and is expected to go back to her homeland.
Judge David Wyn Morgan said: "You have lost your job and your good reputation - which is a humiliation. It seems to me you have been punished considerably.
"It is my intention to let you leave and put this matter firmly behind you."
Cadigan was ordered to pay 4,200 compensation to the Inland Revenue and was given a two-year conditional discharge.
She was also ordered to pay 1,800 costs.
After the conviction John Pointing, speaking for HM Revenue and Customs, said: "Tax credits exist to help families with children, but anyone tempted to claim more than they are entitled to should take note of this case.
