BARRY FC 3
DINAS POWYS 0
BARRY FC finally achieved the home win that has eluded them since the beginning of the season when they beat Dinas Powys Thirds in the Vale of Glamorgan League Premier Division on Saturday.
On a bitterly cold afternoon, bottom-placed Dinas Powys managed to keep the Linnets at bay until deep into the second half, in a game that was played mostly at a snail's pace.
Second-half performances by Barry FC at Jenner Park this season have been mostly dour, despite fitness levels no longer being a major factor. So when the first half finished 0-0, where the only genuine chance was when a Christian Powell shot came back off the upright, fans weren't too optimistic for a dramatic turn-around in home fortune.
How wrong they were!
In a 15-minute period of pressure deep into the second half, Barry got a penalty, missed it by hitting the cross bar, scored twice, hit the crossbar once more, and then finally finished off Dinas Powys with a third goal.
All this while managing to keep the first clean sheet of the season.
James Dawson missed the penalty, but Kevin Owens restored pride minutes later by putting Barry 1-0 up.
Dawson put Barry further ahead two minutes later, before Nathan Shaw first clattered the crossbar and then finally put the ball into the net for a dramatic 3-0 scoreline.
From all the players, it was an excellent response to the critics of the team's last performance at Jenner Park in which they were dumped out of the Barry Cup by Penarth Saints.
Talking of cups, Barry FC now face a trip to Port Talbot side Grove Park this Saturday in the South Wales Intermediate Cup.
It'll be a tough ask for Barry to overcome their opponents, but right now confidence is sky high in the Barry camp.
Supporters are hoping to run a bus to the game. For further details, contact Tim Johnson on 01446 734050.
