Picked for 2006 Games

TWO Barry men have been picked to represent Wales in the Common-wealth Games in Australia next year: David Davies (City of Cardiff) has been selected for the swimming team and Jason Greenslade (35) has been selected for the men's bowling team.

Cyclist Nicole Cooke, from Wick, near Cowbridge, and triathlete Helen Tucker, of Llantwit Major, have also been named in the Welsh team.

Nicole Cooke will be hoping to save the best till last in Melbourne. On the day of the closing ceremony of the 2006 Common-wealth Games, she will hope to retain the road race crown she won in Manchester when she was just 19.

Her opponents will have to be at their best to beat the woman who will be armed with four years' more experience - including a trip to the Athens Olympic Games in 2004.
