A BARRY nursery has certainly proved that it is a caring school by helping people in communities near and far.
Youngsters at Cadoxton Nursery School raised 200 in a sponsored treasure hunt for survivors of the recent Asian earthquake. And they distributed all contributions of fruit and vegetables collected at their harvest festival to the nearby Avon Close sheltered accommodation.
Now the kind-hearted youngsters are filling up shoeboxes with little gifts in support of the Operation Christmas Child, the Samaritan's Purse charity which provides disadvantaged children from across the world with Christmas presents.
Susan Roberts, acting headteacher, explained: "We want to teach the children that it is important for them to think about other people, not just in their community, but throughout the world.
"The treasure hunt, where children had to go home and find various materials which were listed on a sheet of paper, had an educational focus, as well as being a good way of promoting understanding about the issue.
"We want to get across that we are a caring school. We have 69 pupils at the moment and more are coming in all of the time.
"We work in partnership with the parents, and mums and dads are welcome to come in at any time and have a look at our excellent work."
