Presentation for squadron

THE372 Barry squadron held their Annual Presentation Evening at the Glamorgan suite in the Memorial Hall.

The evening began with a speech from the Commanding Officer, Flt Lt Dave Crandon, in which he told the parents and guests attending about the excellent activities the cadets had taken part in over the year.

Special guests such as Sqn Ldr Graham RAFVR(T), Flt Lt Horton RAFVR(T), Mr R Bellamy, Jane Bisset (Media Communications RAF St Athan), Mrs Rose Fido and others were present.

These guests had the honour of presenting the cadets with their well deserved awards and trophies.

Certificates were handed out for exams, heartstart courses, community service and other achievements.

Following this, the special awards were presented - such as the Les Noble Shooting Trophy, Lehman Shield for Musician of the Year, Adventure Training Trophy, Technical Training and Sportsperson of the Year. Then came the presentation of Most Promising New Cadet, Best All-Round Cadet, and Cadet of the Year.

This was followed by the moment everyone had been waiting for - the promotions.

Being promoted is a huge moment in a cadet's life, because it's when they feel all their hard work has paid off and the staff feel that they deserve their rank.

Promotions on the night were Cdt Johnson receiving Cadet of the Year and being promoted to Cpl, Cdt Cheetham being promoted to Cpl, Cpl Davies to Sgt, Cpl Jones to Sgt, and last but not least Cpl Harris to Sgt.

The parents and guardians of the cadets were then entertained by the Wales and West Champion Band, who performed for the last time before the regional competition where they were fighting for the top spot again.

The band performed well knows tunes such as Great Escape, Tom Jones' Delilah and Sex Bomb and drum marches with tricky stick work and complex beats.

Overall, it was a fantastic nights and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it and walked away proud.

The cadets now look forwards to a jam-packed winter full of flying, gliding, target shooting, Duke of Edinburgh awards and much more. If your interested in joining them then call down on Mondays and Wednesdays behind the Adams Funeral Parlour, near the Memorial Hall.
